Letter from the JCTS Editor
As we enter a period of thanks and reflection, I offer this sincere message of gratitude. The past few months have brought no shortage of uncertainty, yet clinical and translational research remains steady in its purpose of improving vibrant lives for all. We continue to deliver answers, improve systems, and support communities—often quietly, and always with impact. That constancy matters, and it’s worth acknowledging.
I am especially thankful for those who make JCTS exceptional. Our editors bring expertise, judgment, and fairness to a growing volume of submissions. Our reviewers step up to provide thoughtful, constructive evaluations that strengthen the science we publish. This work can be invisible, but it is essential. I encourage senior scientists to involve trainees and early-career colleagues in the review process; doing so builds skills, builds capacity, and supports the field.
Looking ahead, JCTS will soon release a thematic issue focused on the use of artificial intelligence to solve translational bottlenecks. The collection will highlight practical, scientifically grounded applications across the full translational continuum—from data quality and endpoint development to trial efficiency and evidence synthesis. Our goal is simple: to move past hype and provide clear examples of how AI can help research teams work faster, smarter, and more equitably. I look forward to learning from all of you how you are using AI for action.
Thank you for your continued commitment to advancing translational science. Whether you are submitting manuscripts, reviewing for the journal, mentoring future reviewers, or applying evidence to improve health, your work anchors this community. We are grateful.

Editor-In-Chief, Journal of Clinical and Translational Science

News from the Hill
The November 4 state and local elections across the country sent political shockwaves that quickly reached Capitol Hill. Not long after the results were known, Congress passed a funding package to reopen the federal government after the longest shutdown in U.S. history. While not included in the package, a December vote was promised in the Senate on extending healthcare premium tax credits originally enacted through the Affordable Care Act. The measure is not expected to pass the Republican controlled Senate and House (nor be signed by the President), but healthcare costs and access are once again the focus of policymakers and “affordability” is the new mantra in Washington.

Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative advances community health at two major Northeast Ohio events
The Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative (CTSC) of Northern Ohio proudly participated in two community health events this fall: the first inaugural University Hospitals Cutler Men’s Full Life Summit on September 21, at the Huntington Convention Center, and the Caring for the Caregiver Expo on November 8, at the Landerhaven Event Center. Both events brought together patients, caregivers, families, and community members for education, resources, and proactive wellness.
Forging new pathways to improve child health in Minnesota
On October 9, more than 60 leaders, researchers, and clinicians from across Minnesota gathered at the Wilder Center for the Pathways to Progress: A Forum for Pediatric Researchers in Minnesota, a collaborative event focused on advancing innovation in child health research.
Hosted by Children’s Minnesota, the University of Minnesota Department of Pediatrics, and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), the forum brought together experts from academic, clinical, public, and private sectors united by a shared mission: improving health for children across the state.
