Letter from the President

I call to your attention that the ACTS Translational Science 2026 Awards Program is now open for nominations. We seek to identify and recognize ACTS members for their meritorious whose work has helped to advance the field of translational science to improve human health. Successful recipients will be recognized at the Translational Science 2026 meeting in Milwaukee, WI (April 20–23, 2026).  A diverse number of award categories are open to all ACTS members from scientific, operational, financial, and administrative arenas. These awards include, but are not limited to, the Distinguished Investigator Award, Excellent Translational Science Workforce Award, Outstanding Trainee Awards, JCTS Publication Award and Team Science Award. More information on selection criteria is available here.  Please consider nominating colleagues who have provided sustained and or distinguished contributions to these areas. This is a great way to celebrate the innovation and accomplishments of our community.

Translational Science 2026 Award Nominations Close November 18

There's less than a week left to submit a nomination for the Translational Science 2026 Awards! Help us recognize the most outstanding researchers, educators, and trainees from the past year by nominating a colleague for consideration. Full criteria and submission requirements can be found on our website. The portal for nominations closes at Midnight PT on Tuesday, November 18.

Translational Science 2026 will be held in Milwaukee, WI from April 20-23, 2026. Our planning committee is hard at work creating yet another groundbreaking educational program! Be on the lookout for registration information coming very soon.

Call for Board of Directors Nominations Now Open

Are you looking to take your involvement with ACTS to the next level? Is your colleague the brilliant strategic mind capable of shaping the future of the organization? Good news! ACTS is now accepting nominations for new individuals to serve on the Board of Directors.

This call for nominations is for Director-at-Large positions with terms beginning in 2026 immediately following the annual Translational Science meeting. Self-nominations and nominations on behalf of others are all welcome. Want to know what we're looking for? Click here for a full list of Director-at-Large leadership attributes. The deadline to submit your nomination is Tuesday, December 2.

Mayo Clinic researchers use AI and genetics to identify early signs of a rare, life-threatening heart condition

At Mayo Clinic, cardiologists Peter Noseworthy, M.D., and John Giudicessi, M.D., Ph.D., are uncovering the earliest signs of a genetic heart condition that often strikes without warning. Their work shows that early detection, and even prevention, may be possible long before symptoms appear. 

The condition, arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, weakens the molecules that hold heart cells together. As those bonds deteriorate, healthy muscle is replaced with scar tissue and fat, leaving the heart weaker.
