Letter From the President

The ACTS Parliamentary Committee was newly formed to ensure that our processes serve our members. We are currently revising all the association’s by-laws and policies to make sure that they truly reflect the interests of our members. During this year, we are aiming to have a structure that can move ACTS into the future. We are evaluating our financial structure to ensure long-term sustainability. We are looking at our membership structure to guarantee that we have space from everyone in the clinical and translational science endeavor.

In order to complete our work, we need to think about our member’s needs. Although many of us have our communities within our research centers, we also want ACTS to be that community you turn to when you have questions about clinical and translational science. We want ACTS to be that community where our members can innovate through new collaborations and new points of view. For this to happen, our community must include all type of members. We have a solid trajectory of engaging students and early career researchers. We have a stable base of established researchers and educators. But we still need to do better in attracting mid-career researchers as well as coordinators, administrators, community partners and many more who contribute to research.

Clinical and translational science is at a moment in time where we are expected to provide solutions to complex health problems. ACTS has been slowly heading to be that place where we can converge and deliver these results. For us to get there, we need every one of our members giving feedback and providing opinions. Where do you, as a member, want ACTS to go? What can ACTS become? We will continue to ask for our member’s perspective. For now, stay tuned for more news on the changes the Parliamentary Committee will recommend. We are still planning to meet in person in Chicago for Translational Science 2022. Our plan is to present all we are proposing to all our members at that meeting. We hope to see you all personally in a few months and hear your comments.
