Letter From the JCTS Editor: Holiday Season

Each year seems to be going by more quickly and it is soon time to close the books for 2023. The year has been very productive for JCTS. As we started the year building on a 40% increase in submissions during 2022, it was not clear whether the trend would continue but in October we already exceeded the number of submissions for 2022. In addition, the four thematic issues that have been completed during the year attracted a significant number of submissions. All of these have now closed and just a few manuscripts are still in the final stage of the review. We anticipate that these will be published as collections on the JCTS website if not by the end of the year very soon thereafter. We are grateful to the many colleagues who submit their work to the journal and we are excited to see the many interesting findings that we are privileged to publish. As always, the Editorial Board is working hard to process the manuscripts in a timely fashion and we are very pleased that the time to reach a decision has not increased in spite of the growth of the journal. We are also very indebted to our many reviewers who donate their time and provide excellent and insightful comments that serve to enhance the manuscripts being reviewed. All this bodes well for the future and we look forward to continue to serve the clinical and translational science community. 

I would like to remind everyone that ACTS instituted a JCTS publication award last year and the inaugural award was given during the TS23 meeting. I am very grateful to the Association for taking this step which further underscores the close relationship between JCTS and ACTS. It is now time to nominate a paper for the 2024 award and I encourage everyone to consider doing this. It is a good opportunity to highlight a deserving publication.

November is also in general a time for thanks and reflection. The Thanksgiving holiday is right around the corner and offers a break from the usual routines. We are spending time in Massachusetts where it all started. Being here, it is really refreshing to experience something that resembles the winters of my youth in Sweden. However, the snow is still missing but I suspect it will come. At least it is cold. On that note, we wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and look forward to finishing the year on a high note.
