Joint Statement on Political Interference in Science from ACTS and CR Forum

As our nation and the world continues to navigate the pandemic, there continues to be much debate about policy and approach. ACTS is committed to science-based decision making and we fully endorse recent statements made by the presidents of the National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of Science. Our statement, issued jointly with CR Forum as the Coalition for Clinical and Translational Science is below:

“The Clinical Research Forum and the Association for Clinical and Translational Science collectively advocate for federal research and public health programs that inform health care professionals and the public about concrete, evidence-based practices, which can lead to improved health outcomes for all Americans. During the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond, it is critical to make decisions based on solid factual information which adheres to thorough scientific principles. Our organizations endorse the National Academies of Sciences and Medicine statement made on September 24th, 2020, and urge that federal officials, legislators, and others resist attempts to undermine strong scientific principles in favor of political expediency. Federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention invest billions of taxpayer dollars annually to support medical research and public health. Americans deserve to continue to have every confidence that these resources are well spent.”
